Thanks to the warmth and enthusiasm of Lambrini and Stelios Zoulivits, second-generation owners, you’d be hard-pressed to find a friendlier hotel staff. I had plenty of chances to watch staff take good care of everyone coming and going--as well as chat with them myself–during our stay in October, 2004 while e-mailing from the laptop placed at the reception counter for the convenience of guests. When was the last time you were met with a big smile from a maid in a hotel hallway or a waiter so obviously proud of the quality of the breakfast buffet he keeps replenished with made-from-scratch baked goods, incredibly thick, fresh Greek strained yogurt, bowls of homemade preserves, hot omelettes and breakfast meats, etc.
The rooftop garden itself is worth staying at the Polis Grand Hotel for; the 360 degree view of Athens will make your mouth drop. In the 25 years I’ve been travelling to Greece with my Greek-born husband, I’ve never had so much fun staying at a hotel in Athens, nor been able to enjoy such bang for the buck. It’s nice to know there is a hotel in the middle of town that actually feels like home, and I can’t wait to go back.
